During the month of November there is a world wide prostate cancer awareness campaign involving 30 days of moustaches. Mo-vember. I was lucky enough to be one of the brave women standing by her man's side as the fight to find a cure continues. Maybe we shoulda donated money. Needless to say - i'm very grateful this is November in REVIEW. I hated it. Anyway - thats how the month started.
November seemed to be an exciting one around here. Got to watch a wedding parade drive by...
Went to our first KCC basketball game of the season. They allow two black men per team here in Korea. They can both play in the first and last quarters. But only of them durring the 2nd and 3rd. Gotta give the koreans a chance.
We hit up a nori bang (singing room) later that night. First time without our long standing friends Matt and Evelyn. Also first one with Amanda (pictured below). I think she got the hang of it pretty quickly.
Trevor and I were lucky enough to get invited to a wedding of ex-coworkers of his. This is my second wedding, but my first "western" one. Below is a picture of them after the ceremony dressed in their traditional clothes. Korean's seriously know how to do it right. We all want that princess day. sparkles, tiaras, velvet. Korean's claim it all. She sat in this room for a few hours letting everyone come and take pictures of her. He dress was something from a fairy tale. It brought back that 7 year old picture perfect wedding day that i've now realize would make me look RIDICULOUS in the eyes of every guest. I appreciated getting to see first hand the wedding I would have liked with Joey McIntire.
Even more intimidating in person.
Korean weddings also come with guides. These women (you can see her standing to the left of the pastor) discretely put you into position, straighten your dress, hold your flowers, and all the other things brides maids are too nervous themselves to do correctly. Again, Koreans know how to do weddings right. Hire Flight Attendants to guide you.
Sorry to make such quick transitions. But like I said, this is what happened in November.

Dalk Gal-Bi
Its chicken, red sauce, carrots, cabbage, and potato. Cooked up in front of you. Simple, but the most delicious food in Korea. This restaurant is called GoGiYo and its an absolute favorite for all of us ex-pats.

Another favorite of the ex-pats. The claw game. Everywhere and containing surprisingly good prizes (like trevors 12x6 inch TV remote control). I suppose it'd be impossible to not play every once in awhile.
We participated in a bowling tournament. My team is pictured below. It'd be a lie to claim I'm any better at bowling then the claw game.... Eating though, Eating I am good at. And we did a heck of a lot of it here at Bitol Classium. It was Heathers birthday (glasses) and so the ladies from work and I took her out to an Italian restaurant on the top floor of a luxury items building. Its got a gen-u-ine Italian chef and everything.
Speaking of work. We did class presentations this month. Here a boy is selling his friends brain. "Its a quality purchase," he told us. "90% of it hasn't be used at all. And the only 10% that had been used was just for thinking about sex." As a teacher, what exactly am I supposed to do in this situation. So I took a picture and mortified them all.

I don't really remember what this situation could have been. Something to do with a bird attack in a play....but shes my favorite student. Han-Sol is her name. Currently nicknamed Hansol-li-o-li-o.
And this is where Kimchi and Cabbage Patch Kids come from. November is the last month to harvest the cabbage. I heard it rained too much this fall and they are in danger of not having enough to get through the winter. Understand, they would starve sooner then find a new cultural staple.
Last butt not least...(get it, get it??!) wanna guess what this doctors office specializes in?? A friend of ours found out the hard way. This was their actual logo at the Proctology office downtown. Maybe next year the boys should just make shirts with these logos to draw attention to Prostate cancer, instead of the dirty moustaches.

Nice blog Jacqueline. The Gogio looks delicious. We should go! I am sad Mo-vember is over. My upper-lip is much colder now. P.S. your students are weird.
Jackie!
I LOVE your writing! I knew it'd be good- but really, how could it not? You've got the makings for a book. And you are hilarious!
Maybe I'm dirty, but I dig the mustaches.
BTW, I claim the frilly wedding with Joey McIntyre.
Cannot wait to see you! xoxo
