Year in Review - December 07

December started off in a big way on the 1st with Celebrity Entourage. The concept of this party was based around having an american celebrity (MC Brite) and all the people that are needed in his crew. On that night, MC Brite bounced 12 deep with fans, groupies, a reporter and his intern, body guards, interpreters and personal assistants. This was one of our most out of hand and carefully conducted nights in Jeonju.

It was our hope that the Koreans would blindly get swept in the MC Brite Fan Mania as we walked through downtown and made our grand entrance into the bar. I can't really know what they thought of us. I'm sure a good many just thought we are idiots. But there were also plenty that were taking pictures and one guy even had his shirt signed.

The next weekend a bar close to my house put together an open mic night. It was good to be around live music and always fun to watch your friends play. I think we all miss going to shows back home. It was a good treat.
On December 22nd I taught my last time at SangSan high school. It was a sad goodbye and I really couldn't love that job more. It's the best job I think I could ever have, and so a little personally depressing to walk away from it.

This is my desk. I was fighting with coworkers at the time, so my smile is a little strained.
And this is what happens when I give my boys an hour to self-study the day before the test. I can't be too angry though. My students are in class from 8-5 everyday and then are in their study cubicles from 6-11. Poor things are totally worn out by the end of the school year.
This is what their homerooms look like. They stay there all day and the teachers come to them. With the exception of my class, art, and music. They are taking their last final in this picture.
Me and my boss Mr. Wang. He took very good care of me all year and we have always had a great relationship. Mostly cause if he doesn't do what I say, he knows I can kick his tail.

The building I worked in.
My students rented out a bar downtown and played a show on their last day of school. I was pretty impressed. I also think this mighta been the first time they've done anything like this and they were over the top excited. They make me nervous though when they aren't in uniforms and aren't sitting at a desk according to my seating chart. It's really weird when they are individuals with a personal style and beliefs.
Ahhh, Christmas. Trevor and I bought a tree and put all our presents under it (thanks mostly to our parents who filled the space down there!!)
This year we celebrated Christmas with a Christmas Sweater party at Jamie and Tanyas. They made eggnog and served cookies. We played games and then sang Christmas Carols. We (the boys) got carried away on the singing and decided to make a night of it. Sneak attacking store owners, neighbors, and restaurants with I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas. Again, we surely looked like idiots. But this time I think they appreciated our Christmas spirit.

At the party we thought it'd be cute to take couple pictures by the tree and pretend to look lovingly into each others eyes while exchanging gifts. Trevor wouldn't cooperate and I became angry. haha.

The day after Christmas we went skiing at Muju. Turns out I'm no better then when I went in high school. I was terrified and fell more times then I could emotionally handle. We got there and right away thought there was a bunny hill that went around the mountain the long way from the top. So we got right on the ski lift and went on up. When we got up the signs indicated that to the left was a double black diamond and to the right was a black diamond! No green squares or blue circle slopes, or whatever the easy ones are called. And there isn't much to do but start making your way down. My heart was pounding and my palms sweating. It took me over an hour to get down the smallest but steepest hill I could imagine conquering. I fell a million times and couldn't even practice without racing down uncontrollably until I crashed in defeat. Trevor promised at the beginning of the day to spend the first two hours with me (hes pretty good and has legs like skis, so built for it i suppose). I spent practically that entire two hour lesson sliding on my bum down the hill towards where he was waiting for me. embarrassing, sad, and awful. It'll be a while before I go skiing again.
Here's a picture of Tanya and I. We were both beginners and went down the bunny hill together. After all is said and done, I had a few moments of enjoyment. When we had had our full of the cold Tanya and I went inside and listened to Filipino singers.
And the week after, New Years of course. This year we went to Seoul and enjoyed being in one of the worlds major cities for the countdown.
Trevor's parents were sweet enough to treat us to a fancy meal in Seoul for Christmas.
For the countdown we went to City Hall and stood in the freezing wind. We actually got a little turned around and so we were at the sub-party made for English speakers. But on the mega tron we were able to watch the big party. And Super Junior played there. (about 15 highschoolers in a band. they make you embarrassed for Korea for loving them so much). It was minus 10 degrees out though, so we were quick to get back inside after the bells were rung and such.
Just in case anyone doubts what I've said about how acceptable alcohol is here in Korea...this is a picture of us and the police officers with our tall-boys.

And there was a show at the area we were in. But I don't know who the people were. Arirang is the English speaking media in Korea. They have awful tv programs and their English translation is always pretty terrible.
Trevor and I took the KTX back home. It runs at 300 kilometers/hour. And we took first class...classy. It ended up being more expensive then we would have figured so it'll be the last time. haha. but free water! When we got back to gimje it was covered in snow. The snow almost makes the minus 10 weather worth it!
This is our car (well, Lindsay's) and it held on to the snow like a champ.
